Key Points

Prime Minister Narendra Modi penned a detailed article on veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani as he entered his 100th year on November 8.
Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday penned a detailed article highlighting the life, political journey and contributions of veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani as he entered his 100th year on November 8.

Extending birthday greetings to the senior leader, PM Modi recalled several defining chapters of Advani's life, including his experiences during Partition, his role in building the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the BJP, his resistance during the Emergency and the historic Somnath-to-Ayodhya Rath Yatra.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister announced the publication of his article and described Advani's contribution as an important part of modern India's political history.

"Today, 8th November, is a landmark day. Respected L.K. Advani Ji enters his hundredth year. On this special occasion, my greetings to him," PM Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister also highlighted aspects of Advani's personality beyond politics, including his interest in reading, culture, cinema and writing.

PM Modi Recalls Advani's Early Life and Partition Experiences

Born on November 8, 1927, Advani experienced the trauma of Partition in 1947 as a young man, when he had to leave behind his home and familiar surroundings in Sindh.

Recalling this difficult phase, PM Modi said Advani rebuilt his life from scratch without bitterness, demonstrating resilience that remained evident throughout his political career.

The Prime Minister noted that Advani played a significant role in strengthening the Jana Sangh and subsequently building the BJP into a major political organisation.

He also praised Advani's ideological clarity, intellectual sharpness and commitment to the principle of 'Nation First', adding that his speeches, writings and political contributions inspired generations of party workers.

PM Modi Highlights Advani-Vajpayee Partnership

Recalling Advani's association with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi described their decades-long partnership as an exceptional example of cooperation between two prominent political leaders.

He observed that the two leaders worked together for several decades without allowing their individual political stature to create competition.

"Advani Ji and Atal Ji set a remarkable example. Together, they changed the course of Indian politics," the Prime Minister wrote.

PM Modi also recalled Advani's contribution to strengthening the party organisation in Delhi, his election as Chairman of the Delhi Metropolitan Council in 1967 and the beginning of his parliamentary career in 1970.

Emergency and Somnath-to-Ayodhya Rath Yatra

One of the key aspects of the article focused on Advani's role during the Emergency imposed in 1975.

Describing the period as a watershed moment in Advani's life, PM Modi praised his efforts to defend democracy and protect the Constitution.

"The Emergency was a watershed moment in Advani Ji's life. He was at the forefront of saving democracy and protecting the Constitution," Modi wrote.

The Prime Minister also referred to Advani's book, 'A Prisoner's Scrap-Book', which documented aspects of his experiences during the period.

Another significant chapter highlighted in the article was the Somnath-to-Ayodhya Rath Yatra, which became a defining event in Advani's political journey.

Modi said he felt privileged to have been associated with the Yatra from its planning stage to its execution.

Modi Recalls Personal Association with Advani

Sharing a personal memory from the 1991 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi recalled helping prepare Advani's election papers and assisting with his campaign in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

He said Advani maintained a strong connection with the constituency and repeatedly earned the trust of its voters.

The Prime Minister also recalled Advani's simplicity and dedication to organisational work, citing an instance when the veteran leader stayed in Junagadh for a month as an ordinary party worker to strengthen the organisation ahead of Assembly elections.

Beyond politics, Modi described Advani as a voracious reader, cinema enthusiast and keen film critic.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Advani's wife, Kamla Advani, describing her as a constant source of strength and support throughout his public life.

Advani Honoured with Bharat Ratna in 2024

Highlighting Advani's administrative contributions, PM Modi recalled his service as Information and Broadcasting Minister in the Janata government and later as Union Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

He credited the veteran leader with contributing to the strengthening of India's security apparatus and improving conditions for security personnel.

In recognition of his contribution to the nation, Advani was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 2024.

Concluding his article, PM Modi wished the veteran leader good health and expressed hope that he would continue to inspire people through his life and contributions.

As Advani enters his 100th year, the Prime Minister's tribute revisits several significant milestones in his political journey and his role in shaping the BJP and India's contemporary political landscape.
