Bhubaneswar, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the anniversary of the BJP-led state government in Odisha with a spirited address from the capital city, Bhubaneswar. Opening with the reverent salutations “Jai Jagannath” and "Baba Lingaraja", Modi hailed the state’s progress and the administration’s achievements over the past year, calling it a “Year of Good Governance.”

In his speech, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha and appreciation to the government led by Mohan Charan Majhi. “Odisha has enriched India’s cultural tapestry and has made commendable strides in development and heritage preservation,” he said.

The occasion also drew attention to symbolic milestones—the reopening of all four gates of the historic Shree Jagannath Temple and the unlocking of the temple’s Ratna Bhandar (treasure chamber), actions seen as spiritually significant and politically resonant.

Modi captivated the audience with a personal anecdote, sharing that during a visit to Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump had extended an invitation to America. “But I declined,” Modi said. “I told him I have already been invited to the sacred abode of Lord Jagannath. It is He (Lord Jagannath) who has drawn me here. Coming to Odisha was destined.”

His poetic evocation of divine duty over diplomatic ties struck a chord with the audience, adding a dramatic twist that left many surprised and moved.

As Odisha gears up for the upcoming Rath Yatra, the Prime Minister's visit has set a symbolic tone—blending politics, devotion, and cultural pride.
