New Delhi, May 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm greetings to citizens on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, and prayed for happiness, health, and prosperity across society. In a message shared on X, PM Modi said, “Eid ul-Adha greetings! May this occasion deepen the spirit of brotherhood and happiness in our society. Praying for everyone's success and good health.”
The festival was celebrated with great fervour across India, as thousands of devotees gathered at mosques and Eidgahs early in the morning to offer special prayers. Worshippers dressed in traditional attire exchanged greetings with family, friends, and neighbours, reinforcing the festival’s message of unity and compassion.
Authorities in several cities made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations. Large congregations were reported in Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and other regions, where people came together to mark one of the most significant occasions in Islam. The festival commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command, symbolising faith, sacrifice, and charity.
