Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: Michael Debabrata Patra, an eminent economist belonging to Odisha, has been reappointed as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), officials said on Saturday.
"The Central government has re-appointed Dr Michael Debabrata Patra as the Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a further period of one year with immediate effect from January 15, 2024, or until further orders, which is earlier," RBI said in a release.

Patra was first appointed as the RBI deputy governor in January 2020 for three years. Last year, the government extended his term by one year.

Patra, a career central banker since 1985, has worked in various positions in the RBI. Before becoming deputy governor, Patra was executive director of the RBI.
