Modi Walks Talk on Austerity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a new example of austerity by reducing his convoy size and promoting the use of electric vehicles, days after urging citizens to brace for challenges arising from the West Asia conflict. The Special Protection Group (SPG) has begun implementing his directive by curtailing the fleet while retaining essential security measures. Recent visits to Assam and Gujarat saw visibly smaller convoys, underscoring Modi’s commitment to lead by example.

Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena has backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption by pledging to cut down on multiple government vehicles and promote electric mobility. Veteran leader N. Rangasamy has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a record fifth term, marking another milestone in his two-decade-long political career. At 76, Rangasamy reaffirmed his commitment to development and welfare, promising continuity in governance.

Vijay’s TVK Wins Floor Test

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s newly formed TVK-led government cleared its first major hurdle by winning the Assembly trust vote with 144 MLAs backing the motion. Twenty-two voted against, while five abstained, before the House was adjourned sine die. Despite opposition criticism, the trust vote cements TVK’s hold on power in the state.

NCB Nails Ganja Kingpin
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Satish Pradhan, a notorious inter-state ganja trafficker, in a major crackdown on the illegal cannabis trade. Pradhan, a hotel owner from Kandhamal, was nabbed in Sambalpur with nearly one quintal of ganja, despite being wanted in eight cases. Investigators revealed his syndicate smuggled cannabis across Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, making him a crorepati. In a parallel operation, customs officials at Bhubaneswar Airport intercepted two Tamil Nadu-based smugglers arriving from Bangkok, tightening the net on drug trafficking.

Cybercriminals Exploit IPL Craze
Over 1,000 fake IPL-related domains have been exposed in a major cyber scam targeting cricket fans this season. According to CloudSEK, more than 600 fraudulent sites were selling fake tickets, while over 400 “free streaming” platforms were being used to spread malware. Cybercriminals exploited the urgency of fans seeking last-minute tickets and streams, even mimicking trusted platforms with copied logos and booking flows. Investigators warned that operators tracked payments and victim data, turning the scam into an industrialised racket.

Fuel Crisis Cuts 100 Flights

Air India has announced the suspension of several international flights from June for three months as surging jet fuel prices, driven by the Middle East crisis, deepen the airline’s fuel woes. Key routes from Delhi to Chicago, Newark, Singapore, and Shanghai are among those affected, along with cuts to San Francisco, Paris, and Toronto. Overall, nearly 100 daily flights have been reduced. CEO Campbell Wilson confirmed the move, citing financial pressures and geopolitical tensions.

Baramati’s Repeat Aviation Scare

The incident, occurring at the same site where Ajit Pawar’s plane had earlier crashed, has once again raised concerns over aviation safety in the region.
