Delhi, May 28: The Delhi government has given nod to a fresh list of names for Metro stations and other landmarks in Delhi as part of their efforts to boost regional pride and also pay tributes to prominent figures of the region. The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Names Authority held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday.
In some of the most prominent changes, the name of Rohini West Metro Station will be changed to "Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station." The officials explained that the new name will help commuters easily locate the station due to its location in close vicinity of the hospital.
To make it easier for people to navigate, the name of Dwarka Metro Station will be renamed as “Dwarka-Kakrola Metro Station.

A number of other civic infrastructure developments have also been proposed to receive new names during the renaming campaign. For instance, the upcoming sports complex in Begampur, Rohini is set to get renamed into “Atal Khel Parisar” as homage to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Besides, it was also proposed to place a statue of Vajpayee at the sports complex itself. On top of that, it was decided to rename the under-construction hospital in Jwalapuri to “Baba Ramdevji Maharaj Hospital”.
According to officials, the purpose of such renaming lies both in showing respect to the personalities and in giving distinctive names to newly built infrastructures. Discussing their motivation for the renaming process, representatives of the Delhi government mentioned that such action was necessary to make the public places connected with the locality landmarks and personalities. Besides, such renaming should make it easier for the people to find their way around the Metro stations.
