Maoists Appeal For Peace Talks After Recent Encounters

Key Points

The North Bastar Sub-Zonal Bureau released a press note highlighting the need for a conducive environment to facilitate discussions

Bhubaneswar, Apr 10: In a significant development, Maoist groups operating in North Bastar, Chhattisgarh, have issued a fresh appeal for peace talks.

In a letter, the banned group, which has been facing depletion in its ranks following heavy casualties in frequent encounters with security forces, has asked the government to create a conducive environment for peace talks.

In their latest statement, the Maoist organisation has called for talks with just one condition, a departure from their earlier demand of three conditions.

Their appeal comes after Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma urged them to engage in the peace process.

In Chhattisgarh, a series of encounters has led to the elimination of several Maoists. Despite repeated warnings, many Maoists have refused to surrender.

In response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against Maoist activities. He has also issued a stern statement, declaring that India will be free of Naxal influence by March 31, 2026.

This decisive approach underscores the government's commitment to addressing the Maoist insurgency and restoring peace in affected regions.
