  • Belagavi/ Karnataka, May 5 : In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across Karnataka, a man allegedly stabbed his mother-in-law after she refused his repeated demands for video calls to see his newborn child. The incident occurred in Aladakatti village near Savadatti in Belagavi district.

According to police, the accused, identified as Aravind Gavali, became enraged when his mother-in-law, Mahadevi (45), advised him to limit his frequent video calls. Gavali’s wife had delivered a baby two months ago and was staying at her parental home. Reports suggest that Gavali had been subjecting his wife to mental harassment and insisted on constant video calls to see the infant. On the day of the incident, Mahadevi told him it was not possible to remain on the phone throughout the day, which allegedly triggered his anger.

Police said Gavali abused Mahadevi over the phone and, despite being warned not to visit her house, forcibly entered the residence. He then attacked her with a knife before fleeing the scene. Mahadevi sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital, where she remains in the ICU under critical condition.
