New Delhi, Oct 7: Classical singer Maithili Thakur may make her political debut, with strong indications pointing to her candidacy in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.
Speculation gained momentum after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde shared photos with Maithili and her father alongside Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in New Delhi.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tawde referred to Maithili as “Bihar’s daughter” and welcomed her back to the state. Taking a swipe at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Tawde wrote, “The families that left Bihar after Lalu came into power in 1995, the daughter of that family, the renowned singer Maithili Thakur ji, wants to return to Bihar seeing the pace of changing Bihar.”
Both Tawde and Rai reportedly urged Maithili to “contribute” to the people of Bihar and “fulfil their expectations.” Responding to the post, Thakur expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “The people who dream big for Bihar, every conversation with them reminds me of the power of vision and service. Honoured and grateful from the heart.”

The Bihar Assembly election schedule was announced on Monday. Voting will take place in two phases—November 6 and 11—with counting scheduled for November 14.
Maithili Thakur rose to national prominence through her soulful renditions of classical and folk music.
