New Delhi, Sep 20: From October 1, new rules will apply to domestic LPG consumers receiving subsidized cylinders. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory for booking subsidized LPG refills.
This means that starting next month, customers must complete BAA to avail subsidy benefits. The ministry clarified that the move aims to ensure that subsidized LPG cylinders reach only eligible households, preventing misuse for commercial or industrial purposes.
According to officials, BAA will link every LPG connection to an Aadhaar‑verified consumer. This will help eliminate duplicate and ineligible connections, making the distribution system more transparent.

✨The ministry stressed that no eligible family will be deprived of cylinders, as multiple options are available to complete the authentication process.
Government data shows that by September 19, 2026, around 27.43 crore LPG consumers — nearly 89.9 per cent of total users — had already completed BAA.
HOW TO COMPLETE BAA
Consumers can complete the process in several ways:
During cylinder delivery: The delivery person can complete BAA using the OMC mobile app.
At distributor points: Customers can visit their LPG distributor to authenticate.
Through mobile apps: Consumers can log in to their gas company’s app and follow the steps for biometric Aadhaar authentication.
The ministry highlighted that schemes like PM‑Ujjwala have expanded LPG access nationwide, and this step will further strengthen transparency. Officials said the new system will ensure that subsidies benefit genuine households while curbing diversion of cylinders to the black market.
With nearly 90 per cent of consumers already verified, the
government expects a smooth transition. However, it urged remaining customers
to complete BAA promptly to avoid disruption in subsidy benefits.
