Srinagar, Sep 30: In a major counter‑terror operation, security forces eliminated a senior Lashkar‑e‑Taiba commander during a late‑night gunfight in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, marking a significant blow to militant networks in the Valley.
Srinagar‑based Chinar Corps stated on X: “Based on specific intelligence input, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice and @crpf_srinagar in general area Korag, Yousmarg.
Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist neutralised.”

✨The slain militant has been identified as Fauzi Musa, a top LeT commander wanted for multiple attacks in the Valley. Officials revealed that Musa had narrowly escaped an encounter in the Yousmarg hills on September 5, where his close aide Yasir was killed.
Acting on fresh intelligence, joint forces intensified searches in Korag, leading to the gunfight that ended with Musa’s death.
Security forces said the operation is still underway in the area, with searches continuing to ensure no other militants remain hidden. The encounter underscores the heightened vigil across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after reports of terrorist movement in the Pir Panjal mountain range connecting Jammu’s hilly districts with the Valley.
Operations are ongoing in the dense forests of Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, and other districts. Officials emphasized that the dual objective of these missions is to eliminate hiding terrorists and prevent them from establishing footholds to plan targeted strikes against security forces and civilians.
Districts such as Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Budgam remain under close watch, as joint forces aim to block militants displaced from Jammu division from creating new hideouts in the Valley.
The elimination of Fauzi Musa marks another significant success in the continuing counter‑terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir.
