Campaigning for Phase 2 of the West Bengal Assembly elections ended today, with PM Modi, Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee, and Abhishek Banerjee making final appeals. Voting will be held on Wednesday, and counting across five states and UTs is scheduled for May 4.
The high-octane campaigning for the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded today, with top political leaders making last-minute appeals to voters. Polling for Phase 2 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, marking the end of a heated electoral battle in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed rallies in Arambagh (Hooghly district) and Bangaon (North 24 Parganas district), where he accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of corruption and governance failures. He claimed that the people’s resolve to remove the TMC was stronger than ever. Highlighting farmers’ welfare, Modi pointed to the BJP-led Central government’s initiatives, including doubling the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of jute, tripling procurement, and mandating jute packaging for wheat and rice. He alleged that the TMC’s “syndicate system” was obstructing jute mills and urged voters to oust the state government. Modi also raised concerns about women’s safety, citing incidents in Sandeshkhali, and accused the ruling party of supporting injustice against women.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also campaigned in Tehatta (Nadia district), promising financial assistance schemes if the BJP forms government in the state. His assurances included Rs 3,000 monthly aid for women, Rs 3,000 for unemployed youth, and Rs 21,000 for pregnant women for child care. Shah pledged to dismantle syndicates linked to the TMC and assured completion of the long-pending Jalangi River bridge project within two years.
On the TMC side, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee focused her efforts in her constituency Bhabanipur, while party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held a rally in Purbasthali Uttar (Purba Bardhaman district).
The first phase of polling in West Bengal was held on April 23. Counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry, and both phases in West Bengal will take place on May 4.
The conclusion of campaigning sets the stage for a decisive second phase, with both BJP and TMC making strong pitches to voters amid high political stakes.
