New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Jun 16: The Union government is set to issue the official notification for the 16th Census of India on Monday, marking a historic moment as caste enumeration will be included for the first time.
The Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases using digital tools, ensuring a modern and efficient data collection process.
Key Details of Census 2027
The first phase, known as the Houselisting Operation (HLO), will gather data on housing conditions, household assets, and amenities. The second phase, called Population Enumeration (PE), will collect demographic, socio-economic, and cultural information from individuals.
For the first time, the Census will be entirely digital, with data collected via mobile applications. Citizens will also have the option for self-enumeration, making the process more accessible and efficient.
Government Preparations & Deployment
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently reviewed the preparations for the Census, ensuring strict data security protocols throughout the process. Nearly 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors, along with 1.3 lakh census functionaries, will be deployed to manage the large-scale operation.
The reference date for the Census will be March 1, 2027, for most parts of the country, while for snow-bound regions such as Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, it will be October 1, 2026.
