- India joined the US-led Pax Silica strategic alliance to secure global AI and semiconductor supply chains and reduce coercive dependencies.
- The pact was signed at the India AI Impact Summit; aims to deepen cooperation in chip design, manufacturing, critical minerals, and AI infrastructure.
- Member nations include US, Australia, Japan, UK, UAE, and Singapore; Google CEO Sundar Pichai affirmed India's "extraordinary AI trajectory."
New Delhi, Feb 20: India on Friday joined Pax Silica, a United States-led strategic alliance aimed at securing global Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductor supply chains while reducing dependence on non-aligned nations.
The agreement was signed on the final day of the India AI Impact Summit, a five-day gathering of business leaders, innovators and policymakers that featured over 600 AI-focused start-ups.
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the development as a reflection of global confidence in India.
“The world trusts India... we have a large talent pool and conduct our foreign policy in a way that creates this trust. As part of that, today Pax Silica was signed, which is important for the semiconductor supply chain and manufacturing, and chip design,” he said.
Boost to Semiconductor and AI Ecosystem
The minister said joining Pax Silica would significantly benefit India’s electronics and semiconductor industry.
“Ten plants are established and soon the first semiconductor plant will begin commercial production. In that context, the most advanced two-nanometer chips are being designed in India today. A complete ecosystem is emerging in India, and Pax Silica will be crucial for this,” he added.
The pact is expected to deepen India-US cooperation in critical minerals, chip manufacturing, AI infrastructure and next-generation technologies, strengthening a trusted global technology ecosystem.
At the signing ceremony, US Ambassador Sergio Gor welcomed India’s entry, stating that the alliance represents a commitment to innovation rooted in democratic values.
India-US Tech Partnership in Focus
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, who attended the summit, underlined the strategic importance of the India-US partnership in expanding AI benefits globally.
“We have teams across both countries working seamlessly together on some of our most important initiatives and innovations that start in India, like Google Pay. I believe India is going to have an extraordinary AI trajectory and we are supporting it with a full stack commitment,” Pichai said.
The Pax Silica signing comes shortly after India and the United States concluded an interim trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and easing import-export controls, signalling closer economic alignment.

What is Pax Silica?
Pax Silica seeks to create a shared framework among trusted partner nations to build resilient AI and technology systems of the future. The initiative spans the entire technology supply chain - from energy and critical minerals to semiconductor manufacturing, advanced hardware and AI models.
Apart from the United States, member countries include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
The Pax Silica Declaration recognises that the AI revolution is accelerating and reshaping global supply chains, generating unprecedented demand for energy, critical minerals, chips and digital infrastructure.
One of the alliance’s core objectives is to reduce “coercive dependencies”, ensuring that countries do not become overly reliant on a single nation for strategic materials or technologies. It also seeks to build trusted digital infrastructure and safeguard advanced technologies from misuse or theft.
With India’s entry, the alliance signals a broader effort to align trusted democracies and partners in shaping the future AI-driven global economy.
