Heavy Exchange of Fire Reported in Rajouri’s Dorimal Forests, Pakistani Terrorists Trapped
Security forces launch encounter in Rajouri’s Dorimal forests

Key Points

Security forces have launched a major operation in Rajouri’s Dorimal forests after 2–3 Pakistani terrorists opened fire during a cordon search. Reinforcements have been deployed as encounters intensify in the border districts.
Jammu, May 23:  A fierce encounter broke out on Saturday between security forces and Pakistani terrorists in the Dorimal forest area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. Officials confirmed that 2–3 terrorists are believed to be trapped, and the operation is currently underway.

The gunfight began after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence inputs. As troops closed in, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a sustained exchange of gunfire. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to plug all possible escape routes.

Rajouri and Poonch districts have witnessed a surge in counter-terror operations in recent years, as the region has historically served as a primary infiltration corridor. Security agencies have intensified multi-agency combing operations to track down armed groups hiding in dense, mountainous terrain.

In May 2026, a massive search was conducted across 15 locations in Rajouri and Poonch following a foiled infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote and Krishna Ghati sectors. Earlier, in March 2026, joint forces carried out combing operations in Khandli and Palma areas after reports of terrorist movement.

The region has seen repeated encounters: in 2025, operations in Bananthab and Piranhal eliminated infiltrating groups, while a major offensive in Bajimaal forests neutralized highly trained militants. In 2023, Operation Trinetra was launched after deadly ambushes in Poonch and Rajouri, resulting in multi-day firefights and casualties among Army personnel.

Officials highlight that the urban heat island effect of infiltration corridors and rugged terrain make Rajouri and Poonch particularly vulnerable. Terrorist groups continue to exploit the geography, but security forces have stepped up surveillance and coordination to counter the threat.

Saturday’s encounter underscores the continuing challenge of cross-border infiltration and the resilience of security forces in maintaining control over volatile border districts. The operation remains ongoing, with authorities determined to neutralize the trapped terrorists and prevent further escalation.
