Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that starting from September 22, India will step into the era of NextGen GST reforms, calling it the nation’s very own “Bachat Utsav”. PM Modi highlighted how the new GST structure will bring happiness to families and ensure more savings in households.

Since 2017, GST has replaced a maze of taxes like VAT, excise, and octroi. The new reforms are another big leap to simplify India’s taxation story.

GST slabs restructured

5% slab → Essentials like food items, dairy products, kitchen items, farm equipment, handicrafts, medical equipment.

18% slab → Most goods & services: electronics, automobiles (cars & bikes under 350cc), household goods, services.

40% slab → Luxury & sin goods: cigarettes, tobacco, pan masala, sugary drinks, luxury cars, big bikes, yachts & helicopters.

Many healthcare & education services remain tax-free, including health & life insurance.

Meanwhile, the BJP is launching a nationwide GST Savings Festival from September 22 to 29.

As part of this campaign, every BJP MP will hold pad yatras in local markets, connecting directly with traders, shopkeepers, and the public. The goal? Is To spread awareness about GST savings, highlight its role in transparency, and strengthen grassroots connections just ahead of the festive season.

From simplified tax slabs to a savings festival in every marketplace- GST 2.0 promises to make shopping lighter on the pocket and brighter for the economy.
