Barabanki (UP), Feb 17: Wedding ceremonies sometimes witness unexpected events. Something similar was seen at a marriage function in a village under the Kothi Thana police station area in Uttar Pradesh.
The wedding rituals were underway when the bride’s family discovered that the groom was a transgender. It was an unexpected twist of events — something the bride’s family could never have imagined.
The Situation Unfolds
The baarat (wedding procession) arrived at the wedding venue
late Friday evening. Both the families were busy in traditional rituals throughout
the night, unaware of what is hidden and what to come. All the rituals were
conducted smoothly until the time of bidai ritual, which was scheduled for early
Saturday morning, considering it was a night marriage.

However, the atmosphere turned grey when words spread among the bride’s relatives about the groom’s gender identity.
Just before the ‘bidai’ ceremony, a group of transgenders, who came to bless the newlyweds, recognized the groom and alerted others about his gender.

According to local reports, several guests and some members of the groom’s side quietly left the scene after learning about the groom’s identity.
The bride’s family, confused by the developments, stopped the groom and his mother to seek clarification. Tension escalated between the two families. Local police — Kothi police — were called to the scene to take control of the situation.
Despite repeated questions and allegations, the groom refuted claims that he is a transgender.
After hours of discussions and mediation, both the sides decided to call off the wedding. The groom’s family even offered ₹23,000 to the bride’s family, urging them to not to disclose the events keeping view of their dignity. The baraat ultimately returned without the bride, ending the wedding ceremony prematurely.
“No formal complaint has been filed by either family, so no legal action has been initiated,” a police official informed.
