Global Winds Favour India: Exports Set to Cross $800 Billion

Key Points
India embraces global trade opportunities to cross $800 billion in exports, led by innovative policies and strategic platforms like ‘Sourcex India.’
New Delhi, Mar 27: India is on the brink of a historic milestone, with exports in goods and services expected to cross $800 billion this year, according to Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Santosh Kumar Sarangi. This projection comes despite the challenging geo-political climate that has disrupted global trade patterns.
Speaking at the ‘Sourcex India 2025’ event, Sarangi highlighted the resilience of India's export sector, attributing the positive outlook to strategies such as production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). These initiatives have bolstered domestic manufacturing and eased the way for Indian businesses to access new markets.
With over 150 global buyers from 45+ countries participating in ‘Sourcex India 2025,’ Indian exporters have found a critical platform to connect with international markets. Sarangi noted that, although recent months have seen a temporary dip in exports, the increased volume of order inquiries reflects a promising long-term trend.
Dr. Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO of FIEO, also underscored the role of events like ‘Sourcex India’ in elevating India’s brand presence on the global stage. By fostering direct engagement between Indian exporters and international buyers, the event strengthens India’s trade footprint.
As India works to expand its trade reach worldwide, the collaborative efforts of government initiatives and trade platforms are driving its ambitious export targets to reality.
