Bhubaneswar, Apr 23: Who can ever imagine that their short trip to Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam will turn into a biggest nightmare. The snow-capped peaks has now became a memory of sorrow for many people across the country.

The attack, which unfolded on Tuesday in the picturesque Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, turned a place once known for its tranquillity into a site of mourning. The attack was one of the biggest terror attacks in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

From newlywed couples to elderly, families have been torn apart, mourning the loss of their loved ones. Amid the chaos, cries for help echoed through the valley, while others desperately pleaded for the return of their mothers and family members. The serene beauty of the region now stands as a stark contrast to the heartbreak it witnessed.

The incident, which targeted tourists in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, saw the death of at least 28 people. Among the dead includes Prashant Satpathy from Odisha's Balasore district.

While some families lost their sole breadwinner, some lost their beloved father and son, while some were devasted to the demise of their husband.

A heart-wrenching incident has come to fore where a woman, who had married only in April, was seen crying for help. Her heartbreaking plea, "Please save my husband," captured the unimaginable pain and loss experienced during the attack.

Following the attack, anguished Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi after concluding his visit to Saudi Arabia and held an urgent meeting. While Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to the spot and met the families of the victims outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar.

Family members whose faces were etched with profound sorrow were seen pleading with the Home Minister, as they quivered with grief, expressing the depth of their pain following the tragic loss of their loved ones in the attack.

Leaders from around the world offered condolences to India.

On the other hand, the recent attack indeed draws chilling parallels to the 2019 Pulwama tragedy, which occurred on February 14, 2019, involved a suicide bomber targeting a CRPF convoy, resulting in the loss of 40 personnel. Both incidents highlight the devastating impact of terrorism and the urgent need for robust security measures to prevent such atrocities.

The Pahalgam attack, with its targeted violence against civilians, serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing challenges in combating terrorism.
