Bengaluru, Sep 19: A Zomato delivery agent was allegedly assaulted by two men for arriving late with the food order. The incident, which was caught on camera, has since gone viral and sparked widespread condemnation.
According to eyewitnesses and video footage, the altercation began when the delivery agent reached the location near Shobha Theatre here. The accused, reportedly angered by the delay, confronted the rider and began verbally abusing him.
The situation quickly escalated as one of the men struck the agent with a plastic container, while the other attacked him with a chair.
The video also shows one of the accused attempting to climb onto the delivery agent’s bike, while another appeared intoxicated and struggled to stand upright. The delivery agent sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports and recorded statements from both parties.
However, no formal FIR has been filed, as the victim declined to lodge a complaint. A counter-complaint was reportedly submitted by the accused, alleging that the delivery agent behaved rudely and used abusive language.
It is not the first incident, over the past few years, multiple cases have surfaced where food delivery agents were harassed, assaulted, or publicly humiliated simply for arriving late, often due to factors beyond their control like traffic, weather, or restaurant delays.
