Mumbai, Dec 7: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested on Sunday from Mumbai in connection with an alleged Rs 30-crore fraud case filed in Udaipur. An FIR at Bhupalpura police station, lodged by Dr Ajay Murdia -- founder of Indira IVF -- names Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and six others.
According to the complaint, Dr Murdia was allegedly persuaded to invest more than Rs 30 crore in a proposed film project after being assured that the venture would yield profits of nearly Rs 200 crore. The FIR states that the project was presented as a biopic intended to honour Dr Murdia’s late wife. Along with Bhatt, the FIR lists individuals identified as Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria.
Vikram Bhatt Denies Allegations
Earlier, Vikram Bhatt had rejected the claims made in the complaint.
“Yes, I found out today that Ajay Murdia has filed an FIR not just against me but against eight of us,” he said. “I have read the FIR, and in my view, it is misleading. The police have been misguided because the things written in the FIR are absolutely wrong.”
Bhatt had further alleged that the accusations may be supported by falsified paperwork.
“It’s obvious that he must have created some fabricated, forged documents. I don’t know what exactly, but there must be something he used to convince the police,” he claimed.

Bhatt Says Film Was Stalled Midway
The filmmaker had also alleged that Dr Murdia abruptly stopped production of the film Virat and did not clear payments reportedly owed to technicians. Bhatt claimed that dues amounting to nearly Rs 250 crore remain unpaid.
“He stopped the film Virat midway. And the payment that needs to be made to workers, about Rs 250 crore, has still not been paid,” Bhatt said.
