DRDO’s Pralay Missile Salvo Successfully Tested off Odisha Coast
DRDO successfully conducts salvo launch of two Pralay missiles in quick succession.

Key Points

  • DRDO conducts salvo launch of two Pralay missiles off Odisha coast.
  • Both missiles meet all flight objectives during user evaluation trials.
  • Developed indigenously with collaboration of multiple DRDO labs and industries.
Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a salvo launch of two indigenously developed Pralay missiles in quick succession from the same launcher off the Odisha coast on Tuesday morning. The flight-test, carried out at around 10:30 a.m. from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, was part of user evaluation trials.

Both missiles followed the intended trajectory and achieved all flight objectives, as confirmed by tracking sensors deployed along the coast and telemetry systems installed onboard ships near the impact points. The successful test further strengthens India’s tactical missile capabilities and highlights the strategic importance of Odisha’s coastal testing facilities.

Indigenous Development
Pralay is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision. It is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against varied targets. The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories, including Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, and Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.

Industry Collaboration
The systems for the test were integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, with participation from other Indian industries. Senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Army, and industry partners witnessed the launch.

Official Reactions
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, and industry partners, stating that the successful salvo launch established the reliability of the missile system. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also lauded the teams involved, noting that the achievement indicates imminent readiness for induction into service.

Strategic Significance
The Odisha coast, particularly Chandipur, has long been a hub for India’s missile testing programmes. The successful salvo launch of Pralay reinforces the state’s role in advancing national defence preparedness and underlines the growing synergy between scientific innovation and operational readiness.
