Chandipur, Feb 28: The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of three successive flight trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS).

The tests were conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, reaffirming India’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies.

 
Precision against High-Speed Threats

The trials were aimed at revalidating the operational capability of the VSHORADS missile system in neutralising high-speed aerial threats at varying speeds, ranges, and altitudes. During each test, the missiles intercepted and destroyed aerial targets designed to mimic enemy aircraft, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness in diverse threat scenarios.

Field-Ready Deployment

What makes these trials particularly noteworthy is that they were carried out in final deployment configuration. Target acquisition and missile firing were executed by field operators, underscoring the system’s readiness for real-world combat situations. This ensures that the missile system can be seamlessly integrated into India’s defence forces without further modifications.

Strengthening India’s Defence Shield

The VSHORADS system is designed to provide short-range air defence against hostile aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Its successful validation adds another layer of protection to India’s air defence network, complementing existing systems and enhancing the country’s preparedness against evolving aerial threats.
