Key Points

DRDO successfully tested the Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile off Odisha’s coast, validating critical technologies and strengthening India’s precision strike capability. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a stronger national defence ecosystem.

New Delhi, Jun 15: In a significant boost to India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday successfully conducted the flight test of the indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) off the Odisha coast.

The test was carried out from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island. According to the Defence Ministry’s R&D wing, “all the test objectives were fully met, as per the data captured by various tracking instruments deployed by Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.”

Validating Critical Technologies

The missile achieved all mission objectives, validating critical technologies and demonstrating India’s growing long-range precision strike capability. Senior officials from DRDO, along with representatives from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, witnessed the launch. Defence Secretary, Secretary (Defence R&D), and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh monitored the activities.

Indigenous Development

The LRLACM has been developed entirely within India, with sub-systems designed by various DRDO laboratories and industry partners. The Aeronautical Development Establishment, Bengaluru, served as the nodal laboratory. The test underscores India’s capacity to design and produce advanced missile systems domestically.

Broader Defence Context

The achievement comes just two days after DRDO conducted three consecutive missile tests, showcasing India’s advanced capabilities in ballistic missile defence (BMD) and anti-ship warfare. Defence Minister Singh noted that these systems place India among an elite group of nations capable of engaging ballistic missiles, including intercontinental variants. He also highlighted the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range, designed to address emerging maritime threats.

Together, these developments reflect India’s growing emphasis on indigenous defence production and its determination to strengthen national security through cutting-edge technology.
