Mount Abu, Oct 28: A group of five tourists from Gujarat, including a woman, found themselves in hot water after attempting to flee without paying a hefty restaurant bill of ₹10,900 at the Happy Day Hotel in Siyava, near Mount Abu.

The group had checked into the hotel and ordered a lavish meal. But when it came time to settle the bill, they resorted to an old trick — pretending to go to the restroom. One by one, they exited the restaurant and slipped into their car, attempting to escape without paying.

However, the hotel staff quickly caught on. The owner and waiter began a chase, aided by CCTV footage that showed the tourists’ vehicle heading toward Ambaji, the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. Navigating through traffic, the hotelier pursued the car and alerted local authorities.

With the help of the police, the group was intercepted at the border and arrested on the spot. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the tourists contacted a friend and requested an online transfer to settle the outstanding bill.

The incident has sparked conversations about tourist behaviour and the challenges faced by hospitality businesses in dealing with such cases. The hotel owner praised the swift action of the police and emphasized the importance of vigilance and accountability.

While the tourists were eventually made to pay, the episode serves as a reminder that such stunts rarely go unnoticed — and can lead to legal consequences.
