The constituency drew national attention during the 2021 Assembly polls when Suvendu Adhikari, after switching from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to BJP, defeated then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a closely contested battle. Since then, Nandigram has remained a key battleground, with both BJP and TMC intensifying their campaigns in the region.
The BJP has already announced Adhikari as its candidate from Nandigram as well as Bhabanipur in Kolkata, directly challenging the ruling TMC leadership. Meanwhile, the TMC has fielded a former close aide of Adhikari against him in Nandigram, setting the stage for another high-stakes contest.
