New Delhi, Jan 8: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to share the aspirations of the education sector and discuss proposals for transforming India’s school and higher education ecosystem ahead of the Union Budget 2026-27.
In a post on X, Pradhan noted that the meeting focused on ideas to strengthen research, innovation, skilling and employment-led development. He expressed confidence that the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27 would continue the Modi government’s tradition of “bigger and bolder investments” in education.
The Education Minister has consistently emphasised the need for aligning India’s education system with the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), highlighting the role of skilling and innovation in creating employment opportunities. His remarks come at a time when stakeholders across the sector are anticipating significant allocations in the upcoming Budget to support the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, digital learning initiatives, and research infrastructure.
Officials said the discussions are part of broader pre-budget consultations, where ministries present sectoral priorities to the Finance Ministry. The education sector is expected to feature prominently in the government’s agenda for inclusive growth and human capital development.
The Union Budget 2026–27, coupled with the Economic Survey, is expected to outline key strategies for inclusive growth and fiscal stability. With Nirmala Sitharaman presenting her ninth consecutive Budget, the exercise will not only highlight the government’s priorities but also reinforce its commitment to advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat through stronger welfare and development measures.
