Vidya Bharti A 'Drop Of Nectar' In Indian Education, Says Dharmendra Pradhan

Key Points

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described Vidya Bharti as a "drop of nectar" in India's education system, noting its 35 lakh students, 14,000 schools, and 1.5 lakh teachers.
New Delhi, Apr 2: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday attended the inauguration of Vidya Bharti Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sansthan’s new office and advanced research centre in New Delhi and said, “Vidya Bharti, though a small part of the overall education system, is like a drop of nectar. Its teaching methods and values serve as a successful reference point for Indian education.”

Over 35 Lakh Students Associated with Vidya Bharti
Highlighting its reach, he said, “Out of nearly 25 crore school-going students in the country, around 35 lakh are associated with Vidya Bharti.” He added that the organisation, Vidya Bharti, with around 14,000 schools and 1.5 lakh teachers, has made impactful contributions in education, values and skill development over decades.

Early Adoption of Progressive Educational Practices
Pradhan noted that many initiatives now part of national policy were already in practice within the organisation. “Concepts like ‘bagless days’ and continuous teacher training were implemented in Vidya Bharti much earlier. Today, the Government of India has adopted such successful social experiments into national policy,” he said.
Multilingual Education Boosts Analytical Thinking
Emphasising language learning, he said, “Sanskrit is India’s strongest root language. If a person knows Sanskrit, they can easily learn any language in the world.” He added that multilingual education strengthens critical thinking, saying, “Teaching through mother tongue along with Hindi, Sanskrit and English enhances a child’s analytical ability.”

Focus on AI and Digital Expansion
On modern education, he said, “For the first time, a dedicated 50-hour curriculum on Artificial Intelligence has been introduced.” He also highlighted the organisation’s digital push, adding, “Vidya Bharti is no longer limited to classrooms; it is expanding into the digital world. The new office studio will help create free, quality digital content for society.”
