The grand Tribal Cultural Conclave in Delhi brought together over 550 tribal communities, celebrating Birsa Munda’s legacy and showcasing India’s diverse traditions.
New Delhi, May 24: The national capital witnessed a vibrant display of India’s tribal heritage as thousands gathered for the Janjati Sanskritik Samagam (Tribal Cultural Conclave), organised to mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda. The event, held on Sunday, featured Union Home Minister Amit Shah as chief guest and drew representatives from across the country.

A significant portion of the programme was hosted at the historic Red Fort, where participants showcased their traditional attire, music, and cultural practices. Organisers estimated that nearly 1.5 lakh representatives from more than 550 tribal communities attended, making it one of the largest tribal gatherings in recent years.

Participants expressed pride in displaying their heritage. A woman from Uttarakhand said she had never seen such a grand tribal event in her 40 years, adding: “Everybody should be proud to display their culture.” Another participant highlighted the importance of unity, stating: “Our aim is to interact with people from different regions and languages, and it feels very good. Good arrangements have also been made here.”

The conclave emphasised the role of tribal communities in preserving India’s cultural fabric. One attendee remarked: “India has around 750 tribal communities, and people from more than 550 societies can be seen here. It feels as though a miniature India has come together today.”

BJP leaders present at the conclave underscored the significance of the event in celebrating unity and diversity. They noted that the programme was not only a tribute to Birsa Munda but also a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to preserving tribal culture.

The Janjati Sanskritik Samagam thus became a platform for cultural exchange, pride, and solidarity, reminding the nation of the richness and resilience of its tribal communities.
