Deaths Due To Wrong Injection In Koraput: DMET Forms Committee To Probe And Submit Report

The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) has formed a five-member team to investigate the reported death of five persons due to the administration of wrong injections at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput.


The team comprising three doctors from MKCG MCH, Berhampur, and two doctors from the SCB MCH, Cuttack, will visit Koraput today and investigate the incident.


The team has been asked to submit its report to the State government by tomorrow evening, said DMET Director Santosh Mishra.

Bhubaneswar, June 4: The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) has formed a five-member team to investigate the reported death of five persons due to the administration of wrong injections at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput.


The team comprising three doctors from MKCG MCH, Berhampur, and two doctors from the SCB MCH, Cuttack, will visit Koraput today and investigate the incident. The team has been asked to submit its report to the State government by tomorrow evening, said DMET Director Santosh Mishra.


The Director said the team will conduct a minute investigation to ascertain if the lives were lost due to wrong medication or if they were natural deaths. Meanwhile, a five-member representative team of the Drug Inspector has visited the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital and discussed with its Superintendent.

Of the five patients who died last night, three were undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two in the general ward. Family members of the deceased persons have complained that their kin died after being administered the wrong injections.


The deceased were identified as Sukra Majhi of Semiliguda's Jagamguda, Rukmi Pentia of Ambaguda's Minaguda, Phulamati Majhi of Kalahandi's Kakasara, Bhagaban Paraja of Boriguma's Badapinda Padara, and Bati Khara of Koraput's Machhara. The hospital authorities have provided an aid of Rs 10,000 to the family of each deceased.
