Dehradun, Aug 8: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday responded to a midnight plea by India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who sought assistance in purchasing land in his home state to build his first house.
Pant, currently touring Sri Lanka with the Indian cricket
team, surprised many by tagging the Chief Minister in a social media post late
Friday night. In his message, Pant expressed his desire to shift his base from
Delhi to Uttarakhand, citing difficulties in finding suitable land. He
clarified that he was not seeking a gift but wished to buy property at
government rates.

“Dear Rishabh, you are the pride of Uttarakhand. Through
your magnificent sporting performance and achievements, you have brought glory
to ‘Devbhoomi’ on both the national and global stages. Your love for your
homeland and your desire to return and contribute here are truly commendable,”
Dhami wrote in reply.

✨The Chief Minister assured Pant that instructions had been issued to officials to address the matter in accordance with rules and extend necessary assistance. “They will contact you shortly to ensure all possible help,” Dhami added.
Pant’s unusual approach of making a public appeal has drawn attention, especially since his family already owns a house in Roorkee. Observers noted that he could have easily engaged property dealers directly. Nevertheless, his heartfelt request underscored his intent to reconnect with his roots in Uttarakhand.
Pant’s posts also highlighted his emotional bond with the
state. “A gift would be lovely for representing our state at the highest level
internationally, but if you allow me, I wanna buy it from Government and on
their rates; at least I can have my first house built in my own state,” he
wrote.

With Dhami’s intervention, officials are expected to reach out to Pant soon, setting in motion the process of facilitating his wish to establish a permanent base in Uttarakhand.
Pant, who hails from Uttarakhand but has played most of his domestic cricket for Delhi, has long been regarded as one of the state’s most prominent sporting icons. His appeal and the Chief Minister’s swift response have now sparked discussions on how Uttarakhand can better support its sporting heroes.
