Key Points

With BJP registering a huge victory in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh State Assembly elections defying exit poll predictions, the national party seems to have already spread its winning base in the entire western Odisha and many parts of the State.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: With BJP registering a huge victory in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh State Assembly elections defying exit poll predictions, the national party seems to have already spread its winning base in the entire western Odisha and many parts of the State.

All the 10 Assembly seats are adjacent to the Odisha border have been grabbed by the party even as exit polls predicted differently. As per poll records, the BJP has always won more Assembly seats in the western and southern parts of Odisha.

According to the data shared by the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday, the BJP secured an absolute majority, winning 54 seats while the Congress trailed at 35 seats in the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly.
In Chhattisgarh, three exit polls predicted a clear victory for Congress while others said that the party was in the winning range.

While the pollsters predicted half of the Assembly seats adjacent to Odisha would be won by the BJP, the results defied all projections with the saffron party winning all the 10 seats.

The results indicate that people have accepted all welfare programmes of the Modi government and defied Congress' claim of the State's welfare programmes.

While the BJP has already a strong base in the western parts of Odisha, the neighbouring State's Assembly elections results also indicate that the BJD government's defiance of the Modi government's popular welfare schemes like Aayushman Bharat Yojana and Viksit Bharat Sankalpa Yatra and massive irregularities in the distribution of houses under Prime Minister Awas Yojana have already an impact in the minds of the people of Odisha.

As the Prime Minister said States not implementing Central schemes will face the same fate As Chhattisgarh and other States, the BJD government in Odisha is going to pay a lot for non-implementation of Central schemes in the 2024 elections.
