Prayagraj, Mar 5: Mahakumb at Triveni Sangam in Prayagaraj made a boatman family an entrepreneur who gave employment to over 300 people and earned over Rs 30 crore in 45 days of religious gathering.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the family for its bold entrepreneurial step that gave employment to many and fetched a good income to several families.

Pintu Mahara, head of a boatman family, got around 70 boats made to cater to devotees and pilgrims during the Kumbhamela. He mortgaged ornaments and took loans to fund his project. Despite the financial risks, he was confident that the Mahakumbh would attract millions of devotees and he will be successful.

"Our boats ferried thousands of devotees and our hard work paid off," said Pintu Mahara.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has shared the “success story” of the boatman's family, highlighting their earnings during the 45-day-long Mahakumbh from January 13 to February 26.

"A boatman's family, who owned several boats, earned a total of Rs 30 crore in just 45 days during the Mahakumbh. This means each boat earned Rs 23 lakh over the 45 days, translating to about Rs 50,000-52,000 per day," CM Yogi said in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday.

He refuted allegations by the Samajwadi Party that boatmen were exploited during the event.
