Bhubaneswar, April 27: The BJP has stepped up its campaign efforts in West Bengal, deploying senior leaders from Odisha to bolster grassroots mobilisation and fine-tune organisational strategy ahead of the elections. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state BJP president Manmohan Samal are leading the initiative, underscoring the party’s bid to strengthen its presence in the state.
On his second visit to West Bengal, Majhi reached Kolkata on Monday and engaged with party functionaries, booth-level workers, and senior leaders through a series of meetings. He also led a roadshow at Santoshpur Jora Bridge on the city’s outskirts. His prolonged engagement signals the strategic importance the BJP is placing on the state.
“West Bengal is poised for change. People are seeking a government that delivers development, transparency, and security. If the BJP forms the government, development will gain momentum, much like the progress being witnessed in Odisha under a double-engine government,” Majhi said during an informal interaction with mediapersons at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
Samal, echoing the sentiment, said the party’s outreach programmes are receiving an encouraging response across regions.
“There is a clear shift in public sentiment. Our cadre is highly motivated, and the response from the people has been positive. We are confident of delivering a strong performance in the elections,” he said.
In addition to Majhi and Samal, several Odisha ministers — Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Mukesh Mahaling, Gokulananda Mallick, and Suryabanshi Suraj — have been assigned responsibilities across different parts of West Bengal to oversee campaign coordination and reinforce booth-level management.
Odisha BJP MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo has been tasked with overseeing party activities in the Chowrangee Assembly constituency in Kolkata, traditionally considered a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress. Assisted by Jitendra Biswal and other youth leaders, the team has been focusing on direct voter outreach, highlighting Central welfare initiatives and governance concerns.
Sahoo has been actively spearheading roadshows and public meetings to consolidate support on the ground.
Majhi also reached out to Odia voters residing in West Bengal, urging them to back the BJP. “The Odia community has contributed significantly to the socio-economic landscape here. I appeal to them to support the BJP and join this journey of transformation,” he said.
Sharpening their attack on the ruling establishment, BJP leaders alleged that corruption, political violence, and administrative lapses have fuelled public discontent.
“This election is about restoring trust in governance and ensuring a better future for the people of West Bengal,” Samal added.
