Big Jolt To AAP: Arvind Kejriwal Loses New Delhi To BJP's Parvesh Verma

New Delhi, Feb 8: In a big jolt for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Assembly elections, AAP convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday lost the New Delhi constituency to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma.
Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister and BJP leader Sahib Singh Verma, defeated Kejriwal by 4,089 votes. Congress' Sandeep Dikshit garnered 4,568 votes.
Kejriwal won the New Delhi seat for the first time in 2013 after defeating the then Delhi Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit. He went on to win the high-profile seat in the 2015 and 2020 polls.
"We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP for this victory and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted them," Kejriwal said in a video message.

✨According to the current trends from the Election Commission, the BJP is poised to form the government in Delhi after 27-years.
The party is currently leading on 48 seats while the AAP on 22. Congress has not even opened its account in the Delhi elections.
Polling for the 70-member Assembly was held on February 5, with a total voter turnout recorded at 60.54 per cent.
