Bhubaneswar, Jul 21: In a groundbreaking medical innovation, AIIMS has unveiled what is being hailed as the world’s smallest and most portable emergency hospital.
Designed to be deployed within 8 to 10 minutes and capable of treating over 200 patients, this compact modular hospital is poised to revolutionize emergency response across terrains.
Known as the ‘BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita, and Maitri) Cube System’, this hospital fits into 36 box units packed into 12 separate modules. Despite weighing only around 720 kilograms, it offers full-scale medical infrastructure — including an ICU, operation theatre, hospital beds, essential medicines, food supplies, and even a sanitation system. Each box features a QR code for quick access to medicine stock and expiry tracking.
What makes this hospital truly remarkable is its durability and portability. It can be airlifted to remote or disaster-stricken locations and withstand impact when dropped via land, sea, or air. Constructed with three iron frames, its shock-resistant design ensures functionality even in the roughest conditions.
