Key Points

Senior BJP leaders and NDA Chief Ministers congratulated Suvendu Adhikari as he took oath as West Bengal’s first BJP Chief Minister, marking a historic political shift in the state.
Kolkata, May 9: Congratulatory messages poured in from senior BJP leaders across the country after Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday, heading the state’s first‑ever BJP government.

Adhikari was sworn in along with five other ministers at a high‑profile ceremony at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers from NDA‑ruled states. The event marked a historic political shift in Bengal, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his greetings on X, calling the occasion an “auspicious sign for prosperity, development, and public welfare.” He expressed confidence that under PM Modi’s guidance, Adhikari would steer West Bengal towards a brighter future rooted in transparency, good governance, and inclusive growth, fulfilling the dream of Sonar Bangla.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also conveyed his wishes, describing the new government as a “Double Engine Sarkar” that would drive development and empower citizens. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari termed the BJP’s rise in Bengal as the beginning of a “new era of development and progress,” wishing Adhikari a tenure marked by good governance and inclusive growth.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated Adhikari and prayed for a “golden chapter” in Bengal’s resurgence. In his message, he invoked Maa Kali’s blessings and expressed hope that the new government would restore democratic values and cultural pride while fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

Apart from Adhikari, the other leaders sworn in as ministers included Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Khudiram Tudu. Their induction reflects the BJP’s diverse leadership strategy as it formally assumes power in West Bengal for the first time.

The swearing‑in ceremony underscored the national importance of the BJP’s breakthrough in Bengal, with leaders across India uniting in support of Adhikari’s historic elevation.
