Assam Trends: BJP-Led NDA Crosses 100-Seat Mark, Congress Trails With 24
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Leading From Jalukbari; Gaurav Gogoi Trailing In Jorhat

Key Points

BJP-led NDA crossing 100 seats in 126-member Assam Assembly as of 11:50 am trends, Congress leading in about 24 seats.
Guwahati, May 4: Early counting trends in Assam Assembly elections show the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossing the crucial 100-seat mark in the 126-member House, signalling a strong and potentially historic mandate.

NDA Tightens Grip
As of 11:50 am, the NDA is leading in over 100 constituencies, placing it in a commanding position. The Indian National Congress is trailing with around 24 seats, while others remain marginal.

The trends indicate a consolidation of voter support in favour of the ruling alliance, with the gap widening through successive counting rounds.

CM Sarma Leads From Jalukbari

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading from Jalukbari, reinforcing the alliance’s dominance. Several key ministers are also ahead, including:

Ranoj Pegu (Dhemaji)
Pijush Hazarika (Jagiroad)
Ashok Singhal (Dhekiajuli)
Prashanta Phukan (Dibrugarh)
Bimal Borah (Tingkhong)

Congress Faces Setback

Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi is trailing in Jorhat against BJP’s Hitendranath Goswami.

Meanwhile, former Congress leaders Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Borah, now contesting on BJP tickets, are leading in Dispur and Bihpuria respectively.

Alliance Partners Strengthen Position
Asom Gana Parishad leaders Atul Bora (Bokakhat) and Keshab Mahanta (Kaliabor) are also ahead, boosting NDA’s tally.

In Khowang, BJP’s Chakradhar Gogoi has overtaken AJP’s Lurinjyoti Gogoi. Akhil Gogoi is trailing in early trends.

Long-Term Shift in Assam Politics
The evolving numbers mark a sharp political shift. From Congress dominance in 2006 and 2011, the BJP-led alliance surged in 2016 and maintained momentum in 2021. The 2026 trends now suggest an even stronger consolidation.

High Turnout Backdrop
Polling across all 126 constituencies was held on April 9, recording an 85.96% turnout among nearly 2.5 crore voters.

Counting is underway across 40 centres in 35 districts, with trends continuing to evolve.
