Digital India / Ashwini Vaishnaw: DigiLocker Crosses 72 Crore Users, UMANG At 11 Crore

New Delhi, Aug 12: India’s flagship digital platforms DigiLocker and UMANG have witnessed exponential growth in user adoption and service delivery, underscoring the government’s push towards citizen-centric digital governance under the Digital India programme.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha that DigiLocker has crossed 72.43 crore registered users, facilitating over 72.86 crore document access transactions in the past three years. Similarly, the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) platform has registered 11.66 crore users, recording nearly 798 crore transactions during the same period.

Launched in July 2015, the Digital India programme aims to democratise technology and empower citizens by ensuring seamless access to government services. As of July 31, 2026, UMANG hosts 2,575 services (880 from the Centre and 1,695 from States), while DigiLocker provides access to 5,437 document types/services (661 Central and 4,776 State).

The minister highlighted the expansion of Common Service Centres (CSCs) to bridge the digital divide in rural and remote areas. As of June 30, 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were functional at the Gram Panchayat level, with 70,069 operated by women entrepreneurs, delivering services ranging from banking and insurance to pension and utility payments.

Both DigiLocker and UMANG are integrated with key Digital Public Infrastructure components such as Aadhaar, eSign, and API Setu, enabling secure authentication, digital document verification, and consent-based sharing. This integration reduces the need for physical visits and paper-based processes, ensuring faster, paperless, and transparent service delivery.

The platforms, accessible via mobile apps and web portals, reflect the government’s emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, inclusivity, and accessibility in governance. By strengthening digital ecosystems, India continues to advance towards its vision of a digitally empowered society.
