Armed Forces Flag Day: Honouring India’s Bravehearts And Women Warriors
Every year December 7 is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day

Key Points

The day pays tribute to every brave soul in uniform, it is also a moment to acknowledge a rising force — India’s women warriors.

New Delhi, Dec 7: Since 1949, every year December 7 is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day - a day dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifices, and firm commitment of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

While the day pays tribute to every brave soul in uniform, it is also a moment to acknowledge a rising force — India’s women warriors.

Breaking Barriers, Building History

For years, the presence of women in India’s armed forces was limited to medical roles. But today, they are fighter pilots, warship commanders, corps of engineers, peacekeepers, and front-line leaders. Their involvement in combat and leading positions is a move toward gender inclusivity and having a modern military.

Groundbreakers Who Inspire the Nation

Flight Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi, along with Mohana Singh and Bhawana Kanth, became one of India’s first women fighter pilots in 2016. Her solo flight on a MiG-21 made global headlines.
