New Delhi, Oct 10: The government has outlined a clear roadmap for the future of youth serving as Agniveers in the Indian Army, ensuring financial security and career opportunities once their four‑year service tenure ends.
Under the Agnipath scheme, those completing service as Agniveers will receive a one‑time Sevanidhi package of approximately ₹10.04 lakh. This amount includes the individual’s contribution, an equal government contribution, and accrued interest. Importantly, the payout is tax‑free.
During their service, Agniveers are covered by a life insurance policy worth ₹48 lakh. On completion of duty, they will also be awarded a skill certificate, enhancing their employability and giving them preference in other job applications.

✨To further support their transition, the government has reserved 50 percent of constable (General Duty) and Rifleman posts in the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and Assam Rifles for former Agniveers.
They will also benefit from a three‑year age relaxation in recruitment, with the first batch receiving an additional five‑year relaxation. Moreover, they will be exempted from physical standards tests (PST), physical efficiency tests (PET), and written examinations.
Several state governments have also stepped in to provide
opportunities. Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya
Pradesh have announced 10-20 per cent reservation for former Agniveers in
police and other departments, along with age relaxations.
