Dharmendra Pradhan accuses Gandhi of disrespecting armed forces.

New Delhi, Aug 4: A political storm erupted on Monday after the Supreme Court of India issued a sharp rebuke to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his controversial comments regarding the Indian Army and national security.

The Court questioned Gandhi’s claim that China had occupied 2,000 sq km of Indian territory, asking pointedly, “Were you there? Do you have any proof?” and added, “If you were a true Indian, you wouldn’t say such a thing.”

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan swiftly responded to the Court’s remarks, posting on X that Gandhi’s statements were not only irresponsible but deeply disrespectful to India’s armed forces. “Rahul Gandhi and Congress have a history of insulting our soldiers—from surgical strikes to Operation Sindoor. Their loyalty lies with a family, not the nation,” Pradhan wrote.

The BJP has intensified its criticism, accusing Gandhi of weakening India’s position and emboldening adversaries like China. Party spokespersons and leaders, including Kiran Rijiju and Kangana Ranaut, echoed the sentiment, demanding a formal apology from Gandhi and the Congress party.

This marks a rare moment in India’s parliamentary history where the judiciary has publicly censured a Leader of the Opposition over national security issues. The controversy has reignited debates over political accountability, patriotism, and the boundaries of free speech in matters of national interest.

The Supreme Court’s remarks have not only stirred political tensions but also raised questions about the role of opposition leaders in shaping public discourse on sensitive national matters.
