Plans to plant 27.86 million trees at project sites.

New Delhi, Dec 8: Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy developer, has advanced its sustainability agenda by adopting the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. This move marks a significant shift from traditional ESG compliance toward a nature-positive model, ensuring biodiversity protection alongside renewable energy growth.

TNFD Adoption

In FY 2024, AGEL initiated ecological assessments across its operational sites, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities linked to biodiversity. By formally integrating TNFD, the company aims to embed science-based strategies into its enterprise-wide decision-making.

Commitment to Biodiversity

AGEL has pledged to achieve “no biodiversity loss” by 2030. To meet this target, the company plans to plant 27.86 million trees across its project sites, reinforcing its ecological stewardship agenda. This collaboration positions AGEL among the leading renewable energy firms worldwide that integrate biodiversity into their sustainability strategies.

Industry Shift

AGEL’s adoption of TNFD follows similar steps by its sister companies, Adani Cement Ltd. and Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd. Other Indian corporates, including Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta, Jindal Stainless, and Cipla, have also aligned with TNFD, signaling a broader industry transition toward nature-positive business models.
