Katihar, May 6: Eight people lost their lives, and two others were severely injured in a devastating head-on collision between an SUV and a tractor in Bihar’s Katihar district, police reported on Tuesday.

According to reports, the incident occurred near the Sameli block office on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The victims were returning from a wedding function when the SUV they were traveling in collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction on National Highway 31.

According to Katihar Superintendent of Police (SP) Vaibhav Sharma, all the deceased were men and believed to be residents of Supaul. Local authorities rushed to the scene, transporting the victims to the nearest government hospital, where eight were declared dead upon arrival.

On the other hand, the two injured individuals, who sustained critical injuries, are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to identify the victims, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.
