24 Hardcore Maoists Surrender In Chhattisgarh's Bijapur

Bijapur, May 24: In a significant development, at least 24 hardcore Maoists, carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 83.50 lakh, surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur on Friday, informed Bijapur district superintendent of police, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav.

The Maoists surrendered themselves at district headquarters of Bijapur.

The development comes two days after Basavaraju and 26 other Maoists were killed in an encounter in Abujhmad jungle in Narayanpur district in south Bastar on May 21.

Among those who laid down arms were Hanumath Rao, deputy commander of company number two of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), and his wife, Mangali Korsa, a Platform Party Committee Member (PPCM) of the same unit.

Other senior leaders who surrendered were Sampat Panum, PPCM in company number seven of PLGA, his wife Laxmi, PPCM in company number seven, Raju Fasa, member of company number two, Dasari Kunjam, member of company number two, and Mukka Madvi and Arjun Madvi, both are cadres of the dreaded battalion number one of PLGA.
