Sai Sudharsan Creates History, Breaks Gayle’s Record, Lights Up Chinnaswamy by Quickest 2,000 Runs in IPL
Sai Sudharsan Becomes Fastest Batter to 2,000 Runs

Key Points

Sai Sudharsan became the fastest batter to reach 2,000 IPL runs in just 47 innings, surpassing Chris Gayle’s record, during Gujarat Titans’ clash against RCB at Chinnaswamy.
Bengaluru, Apr 24: Gujarat Titans’ young batting star Sai Sudharsan etched his name into Indian Premier League (IPL) history on Friday by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs. He achieved the milestone in just 47 innings during the Titans’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, surpassing the previous record held by Chris Gayle, who reached the landmark in 48 innings.

Sudharsan’s achievement is a testament to his consistency and impact at the top of the order. With over 2,000 runs from 47 matches, he boasts an impressive average and strike rate, backed by multiple fifties and centuries. He also became only the second Gujarat Titans player, after Shubman Gill, to cross the 2,000-run mark. Remarkably, he reached the milestone in just 1,361 balls faced, placing him among the fastest in terms of deliveries consumed, alongside names like Abhishek Sharma, Virender Sehwag, and Rishabh Pant.

Interestingly, Sudharsan’s record-breaking feat comes in a season where he had struggled for rhythm. In his first six innings of IPL 2026, he managed only 135 runs, with a solitary fifty against Rajasthan Royals. However, his century against RCB lit up the Chinnaswamy crowd, reminding fans of his ability to deliver under pressure. At the end of nine overs, he was batting on 85 off 49 balls, striking nine boundaries and four sixes, before completing his ton and reaching the milestone.

His performance also highlights Gujarat Titans’ reliance on their top order. With the middle order — including Shahrukh Khan, Glenn Phillips, and Rahul Tewatia — struggling for consistency, the burden has often fallen on Sudharsan, captain Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler to anchor the innings. Sudharsan’s record-breaking knock provided much-needed momentum for the Titans in a crucial fixture.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli is on the verge of another historic milestone. Already the highest run-scorer in IPL history, Kohli now needs just 92 runs to become the first player to reach 9,000 IPL runs, a landmark that would further cement his legendary status in the league.

Sudharsan’s achievement and Kohli’s looming milestone underline the IPL’s enduring ability to produce record-breaking performances and unforgettable moments, keeping fans hooked season after season.
