OpenAI Crisis Resolved as Sam Altman Returns as CEO

New Delhi, Nov 22: In a surprising turn of events, ousted CEO Sam Altman is set to make a triumphant return to OpenAI, following a tumultuous period that saw his termination by the board of directors on November 17. The decision to reinstate Altman comes after approximately 70% of the company's 770-strong workforce threatened to resign if he was not reinstated.

OpenAI officially announced the breakthrough, stating, "We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo. We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this," as conveyed on the company's X account (formerly Twitter).

Altman, expressing his commitment to the company, stated on X, "I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together." He clarified that his decision to join Microsoft was based on what he believed was the best path for himself and the team. With the new board and Microsoft's support, Altman looks forward to returning to OpenAI and building on the already strong partnership with Microsoft.

This development marks the end of a crisis that had gripped the San Francisco-based AI research firm and sets the stage for a renewed focus on its mission with Altman back at the helm.
