Nitish Kaushal, an alleged member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organised crime group, was arrested in the United States, two days after being added to the FBI's wanted list.
Washington, Jul 17: Nitish Kaushal, an alleged member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organised crime group who was recently placed on the FBI's wanted list, has been arrested in the United States, authorities said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said Kaushal, an Indian national also known as "Lala", was arrested in Vermont, two days after being added to its wanted list under Operation Hard Ball, an initiative targeting India-linked organised crime syndicates operating in North America.

Kaushal was wanted in connection with a federal indictment accusing him of participating in a transnational criminal enterprise allegedly involved in kidnappings, assaults and other violent crimes.

According to the FBI, a federal arrest warrant was issued against him on June 25 by the US District Court for the Central District of California after he was charged with conspiracy under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Investigators alleged that Kaushal carried out acts of violence, including kidnappings and assaults, on behalf of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organised crime group, which originated in Punjab and allegedly operates in California and elsewhere in North America.

The FBI alleged that the syndicate is involved in murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion, weapons trafficking, money laundering and human smuggling.

Following the arrest, the FBI said it continues to seek public assistance in locating other fugitives wanted in organised crime investigations.

Separately, the FBI has also added alleged gangster Satinderjeet Singh Brar alias Goldy Brar to its wanted list for his alleged role in the Lawrence Bishnoi organised crime group.

According to the FBI, Brar is accused of involvement in assassinations, shootings, murders, kidnappings, extortion, and narcotics and weapons trafficking across the US and Canada. A federal arrest warrant was issued against him on July 1 by the US District Court for the Central District of California.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Brar's arrest.

US authorities said a total of 37 individuals, including jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Rohit Godara, Ravinder Singh Dhanda and other alleged members of organised crime syndicates, have been charged in three separate federal indictments.
