IRGC Navy Chief Killed in Israeli Strike
Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday claimed that Israeli forces eliminated Alireza Tangsiri, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, in a precision strike.
According to Netanyahu, Tangsiri played a central role in enforcing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and had been directly involved in operations impacting global shipping routes.
In a video message, the Israeli Prime Minister said the commander had “a great deal of blood on his hands” and described the strike as part of continued military action against what he termed the Iranian regime’s strategic assets.
Strait of Hormuz Back at Centre of Conflict
The killing comes at a time when tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain extremely high. The narrow corridor, which carries nearly 20 per cent of global oil supply, has been at the heart of the ongoing confrontation.
Iran’s attempts to restrict movement through the strait have already disrupted energy markets and triggered global concern, with multiple countries calling for restoration of safe passage.
Escalation Continues Across Region
Netanyahu asserted that Israel would continue strikes “with full force,” highlighting ongoing coordination with the United States in pursuing shared military objectives.
Meanwhile, Iran and its ally Hezbollah launched fresh waves of missile, rocket and drone attacks across Israel. Sirens sounded across multiple cities, forcing civilians into shelters several times during the day.
Emergency services reported that at least ten people were injured in the latest round of attacks, with multiple impact sites recorded.

The killing of a senior IRGC naval commander signals a deeper expansion of the conflict into strategic military leadership and critical infrastructure linked to global trade routes.
With both sides intensifying operations and the Strait of Hormuz remaining contested, the situation continues to pose serious risks not only to regional stability but also to global energy security.
