West Asia Conflict / Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian Calls US Peace MoU in Interests of Tehran

Tehran, Aug 30: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States as a landmark step benefiting Iran, West Asia, and the wider world.

Addressing a ceremony in Tehran, he asserted that its implementation would block US and Israeli attempts to spread “chaos, aggression and insecurity,” allowing regional nations to pursue stability and development.

Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim nations to counter what he called the “enemies’ sinister plots.” He reiterated Iran’s defensive stance, declaring: “We do not welcome war, but will stand strongly against any aggressor, and no power can force a nation that is standing with all its might and will into surrender.”

On Saturday, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned in a social media post that “major” efforts were underway to manipulate global energy markets for personal gain and prolong the US war against Iran.

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that security forces had dealt a “decisive” blow to a “terrorist” team linked to the United States and Israel in southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, killing one member and arresting six others.

Tensions remain high following the joint US‑Israeli attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28, which prompted waves of Iranian missile and drone strikes against Israel and US bases, alongside tighter control of the Strait of Hormuz.

On June 18, Iran and the United States signed the MoU aimed at ending the war across all fronts. Negotiations were scheduled within 60 days, ending on August 17, but the fate of the talks remains uncertain after last month’s escalation.
